My brother has had AML for the past decade. He is now wheelchair bound and has very little cognitive abilities. He is in constant pain and addicted to Percosit. Does anyone know of any assistance? I am his only caretaker and I am stressed.
Thanks

Dear friend,
Just reasontly I went through allot of home care programs around our county.
Please contact you State Human Services, local Respite care ,state medicaid office. At this point any doctors notes or letters will be extremely useful. In many states 'Brain injury program ' will help. Sosial Security office you should have been reffered long time ago by his Doctor. You have to demand help first of all from Doctors office.
I found helpful case worker servises. In many states this is also part of some programs. This caseworkers know exactly where to go first-you should not be alone like that. Can any family members relive you for few days? You will be ehausted fast and this will not bennefit anybody.Make a call to you relegious circle-ask for help.
I probably send over 200 e-mails to get 20 returned. There is help out there-when you do find brake try to relax and use it wisely -to stay insaine. If you need support or advise e-mail me at www.sammyswish@gmail.com

I would also recommend that you contact your county to ask about not only respite services, but you must be receiving services from the county and if not you should be. As far as the percocet goes, it is not possible to be addicted to pain medication when you are still having pain. I am a pain management expert and would suggest that you have your brother seen by a neurologist who specializes in pain. It sounds as if percocet is the only drug he is taking for pain management his doctor does not know what to do regarding the pain. Methadone is a very good option, as is a pain pump which requires surgical implantation, but clearly offers very good relief. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.
